TRAINING

Do your nursery caregivers wipe down every surface after each session?

Do they wear gloves during diaper changes?

Do they keep cleaning supplies out of reach of the children?

Do they allow toys to be passed back and forth between infants?

Whether you have two nursery caregivers or two hundred, H.O.P.E. wants them to be the best they can be! We love teaching those that care for tiny humans how to be toxin-free. After all, the littles are worth it! Each attendee "graduates" from class with a certificate showing that they are now a leader in a Toxin-Free Nursery! PRODUCTS

H.O.P.E. recommends the following for a toxin-free nursery!

Hydrogen Peroxide

The CDC and the EPA both recognize Hydrogen Peroxide as a sanitizer and sterilizer. Hydrogen Peroxide is recognized on Wikipedia as a disinfectant. "Hydrogen peroxide is used in hospitals to disinfect surfaces and it is used in solution alone or in combination with other chemicals as a high level disinfectant. Hydrogen peroxide is sometimes mixed with colloidal silver. It is often preferred because it causes far fewer allergic reactions than alternative disinfectants." Hydrogen peroxide was successful in killing bacteria including E. coli in this study in the Journal of Food Science. We think it's safe to say - HYDROGEN PEROXIDE IS EFFECTIVE!

Mirrors & Glass

Spray hydrogen peroxide on dirty mirrors and other glass surfaces to loosen dirt and grime. Wipe away with a clean, lint-free cloth.

Table & Countertops

Spray hydrogen peroxide on tables and countertops to clean and disinfect. Remember: hydrogen peroxide can bleach color so don't use it on surfaces that need to retain their color.

Rugs and Carpets

Spray hydrogen peroxide onto light-colored carpets and rugs to remove stains from mud, food, etc. Just remember that hydrogen peroxide will bleach some fabrics. You may want to test this technique in an inconspicuous area first. We also recommend letting your rugs lay in the sunshine for an afternoon to kill off bacteria. The sun is a GREAT germ-killer!

Vinegar

In a study published by the US National Library of Medicine, vinegar is strong enough to kill e. coli and can completely inactivate both antibiotic-resistant and -susceptible bacteria. The acid in vinegar crosses the bacteria’s cell membrane, prompting a release of protons, which causes the cell to die.

Potties

Preschool potties usually smell strongly of urine because our little friends are still learning to get everything IN the toilet. To combat that odor, spray vinegar around the outside of the toilet and let air dry overnight. Vinegar is highly acidic, which enables it to kill bacteria and also remove urine smells.

Laundry

While it may be nice to have sheets, blankets, towels and onesies that feel soft, smell fresh and are free of static cling, fabric softeners contain chemicals known to be toxic to people after sustained exposure. Since fabric softeners are designed to stay in your clothes for extended periods of time, such chemicals can seep out gradually and be inhaled or absorbed directly through the skin. Use vinegar instead of fabric softeners in laundry. It softens clothes and removes the static. Just add a cup to the final wash or rinse water.

Toys

It may not be feasible to run all of your nursery toys through the dishwasher to kill germs. That's where vinegar can be a HUGE help! Simply mix up a bottle of 1 cup vinegar and 1 cup water and spray toys down. This works for any toys that are non-electronic. Allow toys to air dry overnight.

Thieves Cleaner

There are numerous studies on the oil blend Thieves as well as the individual oils that make up the blend. That's why we like this cleaner the best! Thieves Household Cleaner is an all-purpose, concentrated cleaner formulated with 100 percent plant- and mineral-based ingredients. Thieves Household Cleaner is biodegradable and complies withEPA standards. The research behind it is astounding. It works. Using this cleaner can help you rid your nursery area of MRSA, Strep and flu germs. While you can mop your floors with vinegar to kill bacteria, it usually won't remove grime without a lot of elbow grease. Thieves Cleaner will do ALL OF IT. You can get a deep clean without dangerous or synthetic ingredients. Thieves cleaner also includes the scent of Lemon essential oil for an even more uplifting aroma. This all-purpose cleaner can be used on any surface in your church nursery for dusting, spot cleaning, scrubbing, or any other cleaning need. The best part? This concentrated bottle will save your preschool budget as you can make numerous cleaning products from just

Floors

Mix 1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner with 4 cups of water and mop as usual. For bathrooms or high-trafficked areas, mix 2 capfuls of Thieves Household Cleaner with 4 cups of water.

Playmats

Mix 1 capful of Thieves Household Cleaner with 2-3 cups of water in a spray bottle. Spray play-mats, exercise balls, climbing toys, ride on toys and playhouses with the mixture and allow to air dry overnight.

Carpet & Fabric Stains

It doesn't matter how clean your cribs, toys and blankets are if your nursery carpet is stained. The same goes for the covers on the rocking chairs. When you need to remove stains, simply use Thieves Household Cleaner without dilution on the stain. Scrub gently with a small brush until the stain is gone. We haven't found anything it won't take out yet!
